About Grants for Nonprofits

How is the “pie” divided among organizations in Israel?

An article published in March in the “Calcalist” newspaper dealt with the significant gap between the data from the Ministry of Justice regarding third-sector organizations in Israel and the findings of the “Midot” organization’s research. It seems that the actual number of organizations working to promote social change and assist vulnerable populations is significantly low, and the budgets allocated to these organizations are also noticeably low. This situation emphasizes the importance of professional management of organizations and the use of professional resource development services that can help them obtain sizable grants, and ultimately ensure the organization’s continued operation.

The competition for grants for organizations is enormous!

According to data from the Ministry of Justice in the country, there are nearly 40,000 organizations operating. However, within the framework of the “Midot” organization’s project mapping social organizations operating in Israel, it was found that regarding organizations dealing with social issues and providing assistance, there are only 622 that are actually active and manage a budget of over one million shekels per year. The rest are public institutions such as hospitals, educational institutions (universities, colleges, and schools), religious service providers, workers’ committees, and the like, and organizations that do not have a distinct social activity or organizations with an annual budget of fewer than one million shekels per month (which may indicate insignificant and unstable activity).

The mapping project of the “Midot” organization also indicates that out of the Central Bureau of Statistics data on the total budget of nearly 128 billion shekels allocated to non-profits in the country, social organizations receive a total budget of only nearly 10 billion shekels. One of the most significant data points indicating the disparities between the different organizations is the share of only 12 organizations in the “pie” of budgets – 33%(!). These 12 organizations operate with an annual budget of over 100 million shekels, while 323 organizations operate with an annual budget of less than 5 million shekels, and their share in the “pie” is less than 8 percent.

How does one obtain grants for non-profit organizations and increase the annual budget?

In a situation where there is a limited number of organizations that receive the lion’s share of the grant funds allocated to organizations each year, the rest of the organizations face greater difficulties in obtaining grants for project funding and ongoing activities. Professional support in resource development for an organization can help the organization achieve the necessary efficiency and achieve better results in fundraising processes. A professional fundraising company will be able to identify suitable entities for the organization’s activities, which are more likely to positively respond to a grant request. Additionally, timely and properly planned approaches will increase the chances of receiving a grant for the organization.

We know how to help you in fundraising for your non-profit.

A grant application for an organization can be rejected for various reasons, and it is crucial to avoid mistakes that may lead to refusal. Proper presentation and wording of the organization, its activities, and management, along with the correct documentation and highlighting specific elements that will appeal to each potential donor uniquely, will increase the chances of obtaining the maximum budget for the organization. To achieve this, comprehensive familiarity with the philanthropy world, the various possible funding channels, and the correct ways to operate to achieve the best possible outcome are necessary. Familiarity with private entities and donors and their considerations in granting funds to organizations is the key to successful resource development, financial stability of an organization, and even increasing its annual budget.
